Homework for September 1 - September 7

Wednesday, September 1:

  •  Please bring a copy of The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, to class for reading after your quiz is completed.
  • Wednesday night's homework is to read pages 1-20 in scene one of The Crucible

Thursday, September 2:

  • You will have a SHORT reading quiz over pages 1-20
    • (did you find any hints of foreshadowing?)
  • You may begin reading pages 21-32 in class
  • Thursday night's homework is to practice your new vocabulary words:

  • You may continue reading 21-32 in class.
  • If you have read through those pages, you may begin reading the rest of Act ONE: pages 32-48.
  • Please keep notes in your book to mark foreshadowing, symbolism, interdependence, and conflicts...high-lighting is fine and so are post-it notes
  • Weekend homework is to study your vocabulary words (quizlet)  and make sure you have read all of ACT ONE.
  • you MUST know parts of speech for vocabulary words
Tuesday, September 7:

In the event we have a quiz in the very near future, you may want to know a few things:

1.BEAN TREES What is the “Trail of Tears” and how does it connect to The Bean Trees?
·     Why do you think the author included this historical event?
·     Discuss with specific details

2. List 2 examples of symbolism with an explanation for each example.  Be thorough and specific please.  FOR BOTH BOOKS

3. PROVIDE ONE RECURRING THEME FROM The Bean Trees AND ONE RECURRING FROM GLASS CASTLE.  Make sure to give specific details to support your examples.

4.  Give an example of foreshadowing from BT and GC; be sure to explain with specific details supporting your examples.

5.  Give an example of interdependence from BT and GH: be sure to explain with specific details supporting your examples.

6. Explain the major conflict and how it was resolved in BT and GH: be sure to explain with specific details supporting your examples.

7.  Compare and contrast the two novels giving 2-3 examples of how and they are alike; don’t forget to explain each example with specific details supporting your examples.
